The Ralph Jams Intervention: The Power of a Mentor
While teaching at Lakeridge, Lynn's mentor teacher, Ralph Jams, challenged his plan to enter school administration. Ralph asked him to observe administrators and then suggested Lynn join a new school counseling cohort at BYU. This intervention shifted Lynn’s path from discipline and management to deep, long-term student connection, resulting in a 34-year career as a counselor.
Life Lesson
A good mentor doesn't just teach you skills; they show you who you are meant to become.
"We live in a really self-indulgent world where consumerism is so big and we live in that world where all this stuff and things are important and being able to be self-reliant in that self-indulgent world requires some growth."
— Lynn Meek
